Jhongli City

Jhongli City (中壢市, also spelled Jungli, Chungli, Chongli, and Jhungli; Hanyu Pinyin Zhōnglì) is a city in Taoyuan County of Taiwan (ROC). Jhongli became a city before Taoyuan City. Historically, the city is the stage of the Jhongli Incident (中壢事件 ) of 1977, the most significant event of the democratization movements of Taiwan prior to the 1980s. Ethnically, Jhongli is considered a kind of capital city for the Hakka people who live in great numbers here and in surrounding areas. In recent years a large number of foreign workers (mainly from the Philippines and Thailand) have also settled in and around the city, making it a center for foreign laborers.

Jhongli City is served by National Highway No. 1 and Provincial Highway No. 66 The Jhongli Train Station is centrally located and provides service to other Taiwanese cities. In addition, the national e-go highway buses are also inexpensive and convenient.

As you exit the Jhongli railway station, there are a number of hotels - downright cheap to expensive. A little bargaining can help you get a good price. The ones behind the train station with abundant neon lights are mainly love hotels catering to customers looking for hourly stays.
