John Miles Steel

Air Chief Marshal Sir John Miles Steel GCB KBE CMG RAF (11 September, 1877 – 2 December, 1965) was a senior Royal Air Force commander.
Steel attended Britannia Naval College in 1892 and subsequently served in the Royal Navy. In 1917 Steel was appointed Officer Commanding RNAS Eastchurch and he later transferred to the Royal Air Force.
On 1 August 1935, Steel was appointed Air Officer Commander-in-Chief (AOC-in-C), Air Defence of Great Britain. When Bomber Command was created from the Air Defence of Great Britain command, Steel became its first AOC-in-C.
