John de Balliol

John de Balliol (c. 1212 – c. 25 October, 1268), was born in Barnard Castle to Hugh de Balliol, Lord Gainford (c. 1177 – February 2, 1229) and Cecilia de Fontaines.
He was the father of the future king John of Scotland by Devorguilla of Galloway, daughter of Margaret of Huntingdon and Alan, Lord of Galloway, whom he married c. 1233. Balliol College of the University of Oxford was founded by him in fulfilment of a pledge and endowed by Devorguilla.
