José Rizal University

Jose Rizal University (JRU) is a private, non-sectarian collegiate institution of higher learning. It is located at Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City, Philippines.

The college was founded by Don Vicente Fabella (the first Filipino Certified Public Accountant) as Far Eastern College in 1919 and was renamed Jose Rizal College (JRC) in 1922 in honor of the Filipino national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. JRC moved to Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong when the town was under Rizal province.

JRC was granted university status on October 2, 2000.

Jose Rizal University joined the National Collegiate Athletic Association in 1927. The varsity team are the Jose Rizal Heavy Bombers.

Notable JRU alumni include President Ramon Magsaysay, bankers Alfredo Antiporda and Peter Kaw Sek, industrialist Bienvenido Tantoco (Rustan Corporation) and Luis Ongpin (Wolff and Company), former education secretary Dr. Armand V. Fabella, broadcaster Joe Taruc, philanthrophist Chester G. Babst, Philippine Basketball Association most valuable players Philip Cezar and Vergel Meneses and comedian (and one-time NCAA champion) Jimmy Santos.
