[edit] Premise
Deciding he's finally had enough abuse from his drunken father and determined to get away, Davy discovers he has the ability to teleport anywhere he wants. An innocent teen, fleeing to New York but desperately short of cash, he "jumps" into a bank vault. While living the high life in the Big City on the stolen money and testing the limits of his power, Davey makes another startling discovery: the mother he thought had abandoned him.
But a new tragedy and a pledge to avenge the loss will plunge Davy into a dangerous and mysterious world of terrorists and government espionage. This time there may be no safe place for the Jumper.
[edit] Production
Filming originally started in June 2006, in New York City, but was suspended after the studio decided to recast the starring role. Location shooting began in the later half of August, primarily in Toronto and Peterborough, Ontario. Confirmed locations for main unit filming in Peterborough (shot from Sept. 5-9t, 2006) were scenes on the water, the streets, a local coffee shop (Haaselton's Coffee & Sweets), St. Peter's highschool, and the Peterborough Public Library. The Peterborough locations were dressed to reflect the scenes taking place in Ann Arbor, Michigan (which is Peterborough's sister city) in both late fall and early winter - despite the 20 degree Celsius average temperature. Other global locations were to shoot in the weeks and months to follow. Certain locations from Peterborough were replicated on soundstages in Toronto to make reshoots and alterations easier. Locations include the character Millie's house and the public library - which is destroyed with visual effects. During filming, simple practical effects were employed to illustrate David Rice's "jumping" into a scene: air shot from a compressor was directed at Hayden, co-stars, and extras.
On 15th November 2006 they were filming around and in the Colosseum (Amphitheatrum Flavium) in Rome, Italy. During that day several scenes were filmed. One of them was a scene where the main characters David Rice (Hayden Christensen) and Millie (Rachel Bilson) were chased by the Italian police (Arma dei Carabinieri). Also a scene where David is trying to escape from the Carabinieri in the Colosseum itself has been shot.
