Kalderash
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Kalderash are one of the largest groups within the Roma people. They were traditionally smiths and metal workers. Their name means "cauldron maker". Many Roma living in Romania, have the surname "Caldararu" which means they or their ancestors belonged to this clan. They typically were bronze and gold workers. Nowadays, due to the industrialisation, the metalcraft is no longer profitable and, as a consequence, the Kalderash people diversified the earning possibilities, many times still in metal business.
