Katherine (Irene) Kurtz (born 18 October 1944) is the author of numerous fantasy novels, especially the Deryni novels. Although originally born in America, for the past several years she has lived in a castle in Ireland. She is known to be friends with Anne McCaffrey and frequently converses with her fans online.

She was a member of the Swordsmen and Sorcerers' Guild of America (SAGA), a loose-knit group Heroic Fantasy authors founded in the 1960s, some of whose works were anthologized in Lin Carter's Flashing Swords! anthologies.

Her novel, Lammas Night, tells the story of a group of English witches who act to save their country from Nazi attack during World War II. Woven within the story of their efforts are the visions and fragmented memories of one male witch, who gradually comes to realize his role in an ancient cycle of royal death, reincarnation, and sacrifice.
