Kawagoe Line
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Kawagoe Line (川越線 Kawagoe-sen?) is a 30.6-kilometre railway line which connects the cities of Saitama, Kawagoe, and Hidaka in Saitama Prefecture in Japan. The main transfer stations on the line are Ōmiya, Kawagoe and Komagawa. It was opened in 1940, and electrified (1,500 V DC) in 1985. It is currently owned and operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East.)
The single-track Kawagoe to Omiya section operates as an extension of the Saikyo Line from central Tokyo, with most services running to Osaki and on to Shin-Kiba via the Tokyo Waterfront Railway.
On the Kawagoe to Komagawa section, about a half of services continue to and from Hachioji via the Hachiko Line.
There are no through trains operating between the west and east sections, and so passengers wishing to travel beyond Kawagoe from either side must change trains there.
