Kayla Rolland (May 12, 1993 – February 29, 2000) was the six-year-old girl killed by a six-year-old child named Dedrick Owens, a first grade classmate in the Theo J. Buell Elementary School in Mount Morris Township, Michigan, near Flint.
The gun used to kill Kayla had been stolen by Dedrick's brother. He pointed the gun at Kayla and said, "I don't like you, Kayla." She replied, "So what?" and he fired, striking her in the neck. Despite a 911 call placed within minutes of the shooting, aid failed to arrive in time and Kayla died at the scene.
The story of Kayla's murder was featured in Michael Moore's documentary, Bowling For Columbine. Kayla also became the youngest victim of school shootings.
