Kegelstatt Trio
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Kegelstatt* Trio (K. 498), also referred to as the Mozart Clarinet Trio in E♭, is a classical composition for clarinet, viola, and piano by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1786.
- 'Kegelstatt' is a German word meaning 'skittles', a precursor of bowling. The legend is that Mozart composed the trio while playing skittles.
Its movements display a typical classical form:
The piece can be performed by a clarinet-violin-piano trio as well, or a violin, viola and piano trio (the original publication read La parte del Violino si può eseguire anche con un Clarinetto - the violin part (of this violin, viola, piano trio) may also be taken by a clarinet).
