Keikogi

Keikogi (稽古着 or 稽古衣) is a Japanese word which means uniform for training (keiko means practice, gi means dress or clothes). This word is used to describe the uniform which is worn for traditional martial arts class. In English, the term keikogi is referred to simply as the gi, which would be a wrong use of the word in Japanese, meaning "clothes". Different martial arts have different types of keikogis, often depending on how they are used:
- Aikidogi (合気道着 or 合気道衣, aikido uniform)
- Judogi (柔道着 or 衣, judo uniform)
- Jujutsugi(柔術着 or 柔術衣, jiujitsu uniform)
- Karategi (空手着 or 空手衣, karate uniform)
- Kendogi (剣道着 or 剣道衣, kendo uniform), usually consisting of a kimono and a hakama
- Shinobi-iri and shinobi shozoku (ninjutsu uniform)
