In a February 2006 OFSTED report, the school was described as "outstanding", one of only eight secondary schools in Hertfordshire to be so recognised. <ref>"Inspectors name outstanding schools" – Guardian Unlimited</ref> <ref>OFSTED report, February 2006</ref> <ref>Performance as reported on BBC website</ref>
[edit] History
The Knights Templar School opened in 1939 and since that time has seen several new buildings and ever increasing pupil numbers, leading to oversubscription every year. The school claims no connection with the Masonic order of Knights Templars or The Da Vinci Code – rather, it is named after the chivalrous medieval order of Knights who settled in Baldock. Several Knights Templar are said to be buried in the local church. [citation needed]
The new Headteacher, Mr Andrew Pickering, was appointed in 2006, replacing Mr Peter Chapman, who retired earlier in the year.
