Upon the death of her husband, the widowed Princess Antonia entrusted the princely seat to her second son, Prince August, who also was allowed to take the seats at the Hungarian and Austrian chambers of lords, as caretaker of the lordships. Technically, the "principality" followed the Semi-Salic succession order, though its rightful holders were kings of Portugal and did not live in Austria-Hungary:

from 1851 a "dual" holdership (on one hand, titular heir, and on the other, the caretaker):

technically:

  • 1908-32 Emmanuel, Prince of Kohary de Čabrad, brother of previous, Duke of Beja, also 1908-10 King of Portugal and Algarves. Čabrad and Sitno became subjugates of Czechoslovakia in 1918 when Hungary's borders were drawn after World War I.

the holding of the allodial "principality" however entrusted to:

  • 1881-1921 Philip, Prince of Kohary de Čabrad, son of previous; Čabrad and Sitno became part of Czechoslovakia in 1918
upon the 1932 death of his second cousin Emmanuel, i.e dom Manoel II, King of Portugal, all rights to Kohary (and the lands of Čabrad and Sitno) were inherited by Peter
  • 1934-c 1945 Rainer, Prince of Kohary de Čabrad, nephew of previous, son of August Leopold of Kohary and Caroline of Austria-Tuscany, believed to have been killed at Budapest
  • c 1945-present Johann Heinrich, Prince of Kohary de Čabrad (born 1931), son of previous - the holdings of Čabrad and Sitno, both in the today Slovakia, were lost to emerging communist state of Czechoslovakia during his first years. In 1995, Slovakia separated from the crumbling Czechoslovakia, and the House's lost ancestral lands of Čabrad and Sitno are a part of the today Slovakia.

current heir presumptive: John Henry's father's second cousin, Simeon II, Prince of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha of Kohary, born 1937 and has sons (acted 2001-2005 as Prime Minister of Bulgaria)
