La Mer (song)

"La mer" is a popular song written by French lyricist Charles Trenet (1913 – 2001). It became the basis for the popular song "Beyond the Sea."

It is claimed that Trenet wrote the song with Leo Chauliac in 1943 while riding on a train. It was not until 1946 that he recorded the song.

This song has been recorded by many artists since it was written.
