Lamer

Lamer is a jargon or slang name applied to individuals perceived as contemptible. The proliferation of computer-mediated communication media such as IRC or BBSes may be partly responsible for bringing the term into common parlance.

In the subculture of the home computer era, lamer is the standard insult for anyone perceived as hiding behind a computer to insult people, e.g. making fun of other people's skills in online games or in IRC.

In online gaming, a lamer is a person who disrupts the natural process of the gameplay. An example is in the game Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy siege levels, where laming players will disrupt gameplay by taking items needed to advance to the next levels and hiding with them. Doing this will aggravate other players, including the opposing team, because the gameplay does not run naturally anymore. Other types of laming in deathmatch are killing players over and over again while they are AFK or talking to other players. Laming players result in ban or kick.
