Laughable Loves is a collection of seven short stories written by Milan Kundera in which he presents his characteristic savage humour by mixing the extremes of tragedy with comic situations.

[edit] Synopsis

  • There is the story of a professor who keeps avoiding an academic, and in the end gets into trouble for his behaviour.
  • There is also the story of a couple who play a hitchhiking game which draws them apart, and forces themselves to look in retrospect of their relationship.
  • There is the story of two friends who flirt with a lot of girls and proposition them but due to the complications that arise, they are not able to meet any of them in the end.
  • The final story is "Eduard and God", where a young man called Eduard has a religious girlfriend but he personally has to stay away from religion because of his job in a school. It makes for difficult times for him when he is seen with his girlfriend at a church.
