- In human societies, law is a set of norms, which can be seen both in a sociological or in a philosophical or semantic sense.
- The term rule of law refers to the principle that restricts governmental authority.
- Items associated with the practice of law are often called "legal," such as "legal paper size."
- In some Christian denominations, the Old Testament tradition is referred to as the Law, in contrast with the New Testament, which is referred to as the Gospel.
