The Ligurian Republic was a short-lived French client republic formed by Napoleon on June 14, 1797. It consisted of the territory of the old Republic of Genoa which covered most of the Ligurian region of Northwest Italy. In June 1805, the area was directly annexed by France as the département of the Apennins.

After the fall of Napoleon in 1814 the republic was briefly restored between April 28 and July 28. Following the Congress of Vienna it was awarded to the Kingdom of Sardinia, and annexed on January 3, 1815. The Ligurian Republic used the traditional Genoese flag, a red cross on a white background.
