In total, 37 drivers have died while driving a Formula One car, 24 of them being during a Grand Prix weekend, 9 of them during a test session and 4 being during a non-championship Formula One event.

Raymond Sommer was the first person to die while driving a Formula One car in September, 1950; the latest being Ayrton Senna, who died in May, 1994.

This page is accurate up to and including the 2006 Brazilian Grand Prix (October 22, 2006).
