- Bell XP-59A - first jet-powered aircraft to fly in the U.S. on October 1, 1942,
- Northrop XP-79 Flying Ram - rocket powered prototype tested 5 July 1944, project cancelled 1945.

- P-59 Airacomet - planned for operations but only 30 built before contract terminated
- Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star - entering service in early 1945 it became the first operational jet fighter used by the United States Army Air Forces

- Gloster E.28/39 - May 15 1941 became the first jet engined aircraft to fly in the United Kingdom.
- Miles M.52 - supersonic research aircraft project started in 1942 but later cancelled with one of three aircraft partially built.

- Gloster Meteor - entered Service July 12 1944 with the RAF. Saw action for the first time on July 27 1944 against the V-1 "Flying bombs".
- de Havilland Vampire - production aircraft entering service in April 1945.

- Heinkel He 178 - was the world's first aircraft to fly under turbojet power, August 27 1939, and the first practical jet plane.
- Heinkel He 280 - world's first jet fighter, engine problems cause project cancellation in favour of Me 262
- Henschel Hs 132 - dive bomber design. The factory was overrun by Soviet forces before test flights could begin.
- Junkers Ju 287 - multi-engine bomber design flying from 16 August 1944; factory and project captured by Soviets before 2nd prototype built.
- Horten Ho 229 - also known as the Horten Ho IX or Gotha Go 229, a flying wing design jet.
- Fiesler Fi 103 R - piloted version of the V1 Flying Bomb.

- Messerschmitt Me 262 - the first operational jet-powered fighter aircraft.
- Heinkel He 162 - second jet engined fighter aircraft to serve with the Luftwaffe
- Arado Ar 234 - the world's first operational jet-powered bomber.
