966	Poland	christianization and unification under Mieszko I
987	France	West Francia was the land under the control of Charles the Bald. It is the precursor of modern France. After 987, the kingdom came to be known as France, because the new ruling dynasty (the Capetians) were originally dukes of the Île-de-France.
1001	Hungary	unification by King Stephen I
1035	Castile	Ferdinand I of Castille, the first King of Castille. From Kingdom of Leon.
23 June 1128	Portugal	Dom Afonso Henriques, later King Afonso I of Portugal, defeats the forces of Teresa of Leon at the Battle of São Mamede. This is considered the seminal event in the foundation of an independent Portugal.
5 October 1143	Portugal	In the Treaty of Zamora Portuguese independence from the Kingdom of Leon is recognized.
1156	Austria	raised from a Bavarian margravate to an independent duchy under the Babenbergs in the Privilegium Minus
