Individual weapons by type and current level of use. The list is weighted towards 20th and 21st century army weapons and is not complete.

Contents

[edit] Bayonets, knives, bayonet-knife models

[edit] Swords (incomplete)

[edit] Sidearms

[edit] Shotguns

[edit] Submachine guns

[edit] Compact carbines

[edit] Rifles

Includes muskets, musketoons, etc., as well as rifles

[edit] Squad automatic weapon/automatic rifle and sniper/marksman rifles

These two sub-lists are maintained at List of crew-served weapons of the U.S. Armed Forces due to the complicated nature of firearm categorization.

While some SAW-type firearms over time have been individually used in infantry crew-served weapons, modern ones are classified as crew-served only and normally used as such. The same is true for sniper rifles. In both cases, some have been used as the reverse of official classifications, and for many, there is no historical classification.
