[edit] History

Like the enigmatic Mukai, nothing is known about the fighter Magaki, save for his hosting of the King of Fighters tournament, and knows Mukai. Like Mukai, he has an unrevealed connection to the Orochi, possibly a Herald of Light/Energy-based attacks. In another similarity to his predacessor, Magaki appears to transform from a normal, human appearance, to a more inhuman one, with colored skin and patterns that appear, and glow, around his body. While Mukai was green, with thin, yellow lines tracing across him, Magaki turns pink, with blue, curled designs.

Like Mukai before him, after he was defeated, he stood up, apparently unscathed, and after commenting that perhaps it was more than spirit that was needed to awaken Orochi, made his exit into another realm. However, he was less lucky then Mukai, as he was killed by Shion's spear, which was launched by someone from the other realm and through his body. The next day, however, his body disappeared. In the K' Team's ending, Heidern remarks that his team had obtained Magaki's dead body. However in the Ikari Team's ending, two girls came on Heidern's fleet and took Magaki's dead body away. Their farewell gift being an explosion on one of the vessels.

[edit] Gameplay

Magaki's fighting style seems to revolve around filling the screen with his energy attacks. He can fill the arena with teleporting energy balls, portals through which he can grab the opponent, or his LDM, which is a massive flow of energy that literally covers the screen.

[edit] Trivia

  • At first, Magaki is the only character in KOF XI who doesn't appear to have a DM. In reality, he has the ability to become invisible, which is his DM (ironically named "Vanish"). However, the move does not have the same flash effect that other DMs begin with, and thus many believe it not to be one. His screen-filling LDM is his only super move with said flash.
  • All of Magaki's personal information (likes, dislikes, hobbies, etc.) is listed by SNK as "unknown", making him more mysterious than Mukai before him.
  • His theme song, An Improvised Concerto, is a symphonic score, performed primarily with pianos and violins. It's also the softest KOF boss theme to date.
  • Magaki does not have a crouching sprite, and appears to be standing even when crouching. Therefore it is nearly impossible to tell how he's blocking beforehand. (This is a well-known trait of characters with SNK Boss Syndrome)
  • Magaki's walking motions, LDM pose, and a few miscellaneous poses resemble the dance from Thriller. This, when added to his high-pitched voice, white suit, and general mannerisms, would suggest that SNKP was making a parody of Michael Jackson.

[edit] Malin

Malin

<tr> <td align="center" colspan="2">Image:Malin2003.png

Malin is a video game character in the King of Fighters series.

Malin is an enigmatic young woman who seems to have connections with the King of Fighters 2003 tournament, whose attacks all utilize some sort of weapon, even her kicks (a blade coming from her shoe can be seen). She subsequently met up with the duo of Athena Asamiya and Hinako Shijou and joined their "School Girls team" for the tournament despite their doubts of her abilities (she convinced them by stealing the ribbons from their hair without them noticing). KOF XI shows that Malin has something of a grudge against Yuri Sakazaki. It is said that she hates how Yuri always says "Yoyucchi" and her comment against Malin's fighting style. She is one of few characers in King Of Fighters (or any other game for that matter) to have access to Hammerspace.

Many players assumed that, due to the spiked yo-yo and her schoolgirl appearance, that Malin was a homage to the character Gogo Yubari in the Quentin Tarantino film Kill Bill, though besides this she bares little resemblance to the character.

[edit] Trivia

  • Rumour has it, that her moves never show her underwear because she is wearing a g-string. It would be considered sexual content, which is not acceptable for most arcade games, especially since she might seem underage. However her sprite in KOF XI, when executing her QCF, QCF+K Desperation Move, shows her underwear as a black pair of boxer shorts.
  • Her "claws" seem to be just her knives cuffed in her fists and it is presumed she doesn't have claws similar to those of Choi Bounge or Vega.
  • The KOF 10th site stated that the producers insisted that the players spell her name as Malin and not Marin, in their comment: This is the humble preference of the supervising designer and a mystery to us all.; Also, it could be good to note that when said, her name sounds like the french word maline, which can be used to represent a malignant, tricky female individual.
  • Her DM Beehive, greatly resembles the X.F.L.A.T. super art from the character Twelve in Street Fighter III. As it begins with a dive attack, which upon connecting, she executes several very fast dive attacks from all directions before she finishes the move in her own style, with a sword.

[edit] Momoko

Momoko

<tr><th style="background-color: #DDDDFF;">Game series</th><td>King of Fighters series</td></tr><tr><th style="background-color: #DDDDFF;">First game</th><td>King of Fighters XI</td></tr><tr><th colspan="2" style="font-size:110%; text-align: center; background-color: #CCCCFF;" >In-Universe Information</th></tr> <tr><th style="background-color: #DDDDFF;">Birthplace</th><td>Japan</td></tr><tr><th style="background-color: #DDDDFF;">Blood type</th><td>O</td></tr><tr><th style="background-color: #DDDDFF;">Fighting style</th><td>Dragon Psychic Power & Capoeira</td></tr>

Momoko is one of the three original characters debuting in the video game King of Fighters XI. There, she belongs to the Psycho Soldiers along with her idols and martial arts teachers, Athena and Kensou.

[edit] Trivia

  • Her name means peach child in Japanese.
  • While most of her attacks are physical, Momoko's strongest attack is a Kamehameha-like super-shot.
  • She is the fourth character in the King of Fighters games who can use her buttocks to attack, the first three being Mai Shiranui, Yuri Sakazaki and Athena Asamiya. Unlike Mai, Yuri, and Athena, though, Momoko can do this 3 times in a row.
  • She a special introduction speech for characters with large bosoms like Jenet, Elisabeth or Vanessa (goes googly-eyed and fangirls her opponent) In the first case, if Momoko wins the match and it's the last one of the stage, she'll say that she wants her own breasts to be as pretty and big as her opponent's when she grows up.
  • Momoko also has an introduction speech for Athena (who pets her like a kitty before they fight) and a special winning pose with her (Athena appears behind her and Momoko jumps into her arms, clinging to her happily while little hearts float in the background).
  • Momoko seems to be a chain-move style character, similar to the character Angel.

[edit] Oswald

Oswald

<tr><th style="background-color: #DDDDFF;">Game series</th><td>King of Fighters series</td></tr><tr><th style="background-color: #DDDDFF;">First game</th><td>King of Fighters XI</td></tr><tr><th colspan="2" style="font-size:110%; text-align: center; background-color: #CCCCFF;" >In-Universe Information</th></tr> <tr><th style="background-color: #DDDDFF;">Birthplace</th><td>Ireland</td></tr><tr><th style="background-color: #DDDDFF;">Blood type</th><td>AB</td></tr><tr><th style="background-color: #DDDDFF;">Fighting style</th><td>Karnoffel (World's oldest card game)</td></tr>

Oswald is one of the three original characters debuting in the video game The King of Fighters XI. There, he belongs to the Ash Team along with Ash and Shen Woo.

It is revealed at the end of the tournament that Oswald joins Ash and Shen Woo to obtain drugs named 'Ryu-gan' (roughly translated 'Dragon pills'). Ash accepts him into his team because he knows Shen Woo knows something about those drugs, and he simply doesn't feel sorry when he tells everything to both his team mates, triggering the fight between the two while Ash leaves for his own business.

[edit] Trivia

  • Oswald's fictional fighting style is allegedly based on a card game called Karnoffel, which is said to trace it roots back to medieval times. Since this "martial art" involves the slashing with and throwing of playing cards, many players have compared Oswald to Gambit, who has appeared in some of Capcom's fighting games. Oswald's Joker LDM is also extremely reminiscent of Gambit's "Royal Flush" Hyper X Combo.
  • All of Oswald's special/super moves are named in some kind of respect to the 52 card poker deck. "Ace", "Heart", Spade", and "10" are all present, for example.
  • Oswald's Leader Desperation Move, Joker, does 53 hits (one wall-press and 52 cards). This puts it at third place in the SNK fighting game universe in terms of number of hits - Li Xiangfei's Majinga surpasses it, clocking in at 102 hits (though in King of Fighters 2001, the move is reputed to do 2001 hits on rare occasions), as does May Lee's Disposition Frog in King of Fighters 2002, which does 54 hits, (although only 5 of which actually do damage).
  • Oswald's Leader Desperation Move also marks the first time a King of Fighters game has used the "Charge Super" motion: in this case, Back (Hold) Forward, Back, Forward. It is also interesting to note that the LDM is Oswald's only charging move, whereas most Capcom fighting game characters with charging Supers use charging motions for their special moves as well.
  • According to the Internet Movie Database, Kong Kuwata, the same person who did Genjuro Kibagami's, Geese Howard's, Duck King's, and Neinhalt Sieger's voices, does Oswald's voice. This is especially odd, because Kong Kuwata did not return as Duck King's voice in this installment.

[edit] Shion

Shion

<tr><th style="background-color: #DDDDFF;">Game series</th><td>King of Fighters series</td></tr><tr><th style="background-color: #DDDDFF;">First game</th><td>King of Fighters XI</td></tr><tr><th colspan="2" style="font-size:110%; text-align: center; background-color: #CCCCFF;" >In-Universe Information</th></tr> <tr><th style="background-color: #DDDDFF;">Birthplace</th><td>China</td></tr><tr><th style="background-color: #DDDDFF;">Fighting style</th><td>Chinese Wu-Shu</td></tr>

Shion is a video game character in the King of Fighters series and the sub-boss of the The King of Fighters XI game.

[edit] History

Shion works under Magaki and moves for the resurrection of the seal-moved Orochi. She uses a form of barehand wushu, a spear, and a rope dart for his/her moves. She is very eager to accept challenges.

Shion is first shown in the mid-game cinematics after the mid boss fight, showing her talking with Magaki, who warns her of betraying him. Next, Shion is seen taking a break after turning the finals arena into ruins. After she is beaten, Shion gets surprised by Magaki who whisks her away to a different dimension. The most likely case is that since she is definitely upset by this, Shion doesn't waste time at all when she finds an opening on Magaki's defense when she's trying to flee via dimensional rift. Shion kills Magaki by driving her spear right through his heart, killing him quickly, even though she is then trapped in the other dimension.

[edit] Trivia

  • As of the moment, SNK Playmore hasn't officially stated of Shion's true gender. Judging by her voice actor, fancy clothing and fighting stance, Shion sounds like a girl. However, it is widely known that in Japanese animation it is not uncommon to find female voice actors portraying men. The internet debate over Shion's gender will rage on until SNKP gives an answer. Until then, it is all speculation.
  • Shion is one of the most fluidly animated character to ever grace the 2D King of Fighters series. This might be due to the fact that Shion uses the forms of Wushu which itself involves a lot of graceful and complicated moves.
  • Shion is said to be a favorite amongst the KOFXI designers. This may be evident of her being one of the characters that were made into toy give-aways in SNK Playmore's 2005 Year End Party, just months after the release of KOFXI.
