Mammut americanum is an extinct species of mastodont proboscid.
Mammut americanum was the most common North American proboscid. The 3 m (10 ft) tall creature had long hairs to insulate itself, just like a mammoth. Its relatively long skull sported an impressive set of large, upwards-curving tusks.
