[edit] Biography
Image:Matt Black Les Paul.jpg The previous vocalist of Trivium quit the band shortly after Matt's joining and thus, he assumed responsibility for vocals and the majority of the song writing. His debut with Trivium included his compositions of Fugue, Demon, Requiem, and Sworn. He has also composed the songs and lyrics for their Ember to Inferno album and most of the Ascendancy album. Each band member has had an equal involvement in the writing of the album The Crusade.
At the age of 20, Matt has had considerable success for a young artist. Trivium has garnered a large following in North America and the UK, they are now trying to achieve the same success in the rest of Europe.
Matt's all-time favourite artists include Metallica, Queen, Pantera, Megadeth, and Iron Maiden. He cited Megadeth's Rust in Peace as his favorite album in Guitar World.
His success did not come easily. He claims to have practiced many hours a day to learn guitar when he was 12 years old, right through until present day. He claimed to have started playing when he was 11, but didn't see any improvement until he started listening to bands like Metallica. He joined Trivium when he was just 13. [[1]]
Matt is currently writing a column for Guitar World with help of his bandmate Corey Beaulieu, as of the August 2006 issue.
Matt's father, Brian Heafy works as a co-manager for the band alongside Justin Arcangel. Matt's mother, Yoshiko Heafy, is Japanese.
At the 'Metal Hammer Golden God Awards 2006' Matt won the 'Golden God Award'.

Heafy also wrote the lyrics and sang lead the vocals to 'The End', captained by Dino Cazares.
