Megantereon nihowanensis |
The Megantereon was an early saber-toothed cat. This mammal was about 1.2 m long and had two dagger-like teeth. This carnivore lived from the late Miocene to the early Pleistocene, roughly 2-3 million years ago. Its remains have been found in South Africa, India, USA (Texas) and France. Megantereon used its large teeth to prey upon large, thick-skinned mammals, like the mastodon.
