Mesmer (Artemis Fowl)

The mesmer is a power that most of the fairy familes from the Artemis Fowl book series are able to use, since only a small amount of magic is needed to mesmerize someone. The mesmer can be used on fellow fairies, but this is against fairy law as someone who is mesmerized has very little control over their actions. The mesmer's human equivalent is hypnosis, and some fairies are able to fight it more than others. The mesmer requires direct eye contact, as well as a mesmeric voice laced with suggestion. The mesmer is used twice by Holly Short on Artemis Fowl and failed both times because he was wearing mirrored sunglasses and then contact lenses. It is also used by Briar Cudgeon, Opal Koboi, and Leon Abbot.
