Michael Aguirre is currently the City Attorney for the City of San Diego, California, a post that he has occupied since December 6, 2004. Aguirre previously worked as Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Department of Justice, directing a grand jury investigation of pension racketeering. Following that, he was appointed as assistant counsel to the U.S. Senate's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.

Aguirre earned a Bachelor's degree at Arizona State, a Master's degree from Harvard University, and a law degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1974.
