Lonsdale as Hugo Drax in Moonraker, 1979

Michael Lonsdale, sometimes billed as Michel Lonsdale, born Alfred de Turris, (May 24, 1931) in Paris is a French actor who has appeared in over 180 films and television shows.

Lonsdale is perhaps best known for his role as the villanous Sir Hugo Drax in the 1979 James Bond film, Moonraker, or possibly the astute French detective Lebel who brought down the "Jackal" in The Day of the Jackal. Lonsdale also notably played the abbot in The Name of the Rose and most recently the father of Louis in Steven Spielberg's Munich. A Frenchman of British descent, Lonsdale is perfectly bilingual and is often in demand for English-language productions.
