The Mixe are an indigenous group of people who live in the eastern highlands of the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. They speak the Mixe languages which are classified in the Mixe-Zoque family, and are more culturally conservative than other indigenous groups of the region, maintaining their language to this day. The Summer Institute of Linguistics estimates there were about 90,000 speakers of Mixe as of 1993. The Mixes remained independent of the Aztec Empire, and claim not to have been conquered by the Spanish conquistadores.

One of the largest towns in their area is the municipality of San Pedro y San Pablo Ayutla. The region where they live is known as the Sierra Mixe.
