Chicago columnist Mike Royko dubbed California politician Jerry Brown as "Governor Moonbeam" in reference to some ideas that Royko considered "far out".
The verb to moon 'expose to moonlight' and the metaphor moon for buttocks existed for centuries before US student slang combined them in a new sense of the verb, Mooning or "Shooting the Moon", the act of publicly displaying one's bare buttocks.
Some wags in the golden age of radio made fun of the stoutly-built singing star Kate Smith, for the fact that her radio theme song was "When the Moon Comes over the Mountain".
