Nanjing Metro

The Nanjing Metro is a metro system in the city of Nanjing, China. It is referred to as a light rail system in Chinese terminology. Construction began in 2000 first lines from Maigaoqiao - Xiaohang and Xiaohang - Olympic Stadium were completed in 2005. Currently Line 2 is under construction and will be finished by 2009.
Line 1 is 17 km with 13 stations and line 2 will have 20 stations. Line 3 will be 17 km and extended to 43 km when completed. Construction will take place between 2006 and 2009.

[edit] Line 1
21.72 km long, runs from Maigaoqiao via Xiaohang to Olympic Stadium.
All stations are underground except Xiaohang, Zhonghuamen, Hongshan Zoo, Maigaoqiao, Andemen.
From north to south they are:
Maigaoqiao - Hongshan Zoo - Nanjing Railway Station - Xinmofan Road - Xuanwumen - Gulou - Zhujiang Road - Xinjiekou - Zhangfuyuan - Sanshan Street - Zhonghuamen - Andemen - Xiaohang - Zhongsheng - Yuantong - Olympic Stadium

25.15 km long, runs from Wangjiacun to Maqun. Line 2 is currently under construction, and will be finished by 2009.
From west to east the stations are:
Wangjiacun - Zhonghecun - Yuantong - Xiangxing Road - Suojie - Jiqingmen Dajie - Chating - Mochou Lake - Hanzhongmen - Shanghai Road - Xinjiekou - Daxinggong - Yixian Bridge - Minggugong - Muxuyuan Dajie - Xiaowei Jie - Xiaolingwei - Zhonglingjie - Maqun

[edit] Ticket system
Like many metro systems in the world, the fares on the Shanghai Subway are distance based. Fares ranged from 2 yuan (approx USD $0.25) for journeys under 8 stations, to 4 yuan.

(1) The base fare is 2 yuan for journeys under 8 stations, then 1 yuan for each additional 4 stations. And the highest fare is 4 yuan.
(2) There will be a 5% discount if you use Nanjing Public Utility IC Card.
[edit] Single tickets
Single journey tickets can be purchased from the ticket vending machine or at a ticket window. The ticket vending machine accepts coins and bills.
[edit] Transit Card
Apart from the single ticket, payment for the journey can be made by buying a Nanjing Public Utility IC Card. This contactless card can be bought for a refundable fee of 30 yuan at convenience stores and metro stations. This card can be recharged at ticket booths situated at the metro stations as well as many small convenience shops throughout the city. The Card can also be used to pay for other forms of transportation, such as taxi or bus.
This transit card is similar to the Chicago Card of the CTA, the SmarTrip of the Washington Metro, and the Octopus card of Hong Kong's MTR .
