National Association of Broadcasters
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) is a US trade association that advocates on behalf of over 8,300 radio and television stations and networks before Congress, the Federal Communications Commission and the Courts.
Under the leadership of Eddie Fritts, who served as the association's president and CEO for 23 years, NAB became one of America's most effective trade associations. In December 2005, David K. Rehr was named president and CEO.
NAB's spring convention, the World's Largest Electronic Media Show and its annual NAB Radio Show welcome thousands of visitors each year from the U.S. and abroad.
Similar organizations exist in individual U.S. states, including GAB, the Georgia Association of Broadcasters in Georgia. Its counterpart in Canada is CAB, the Canadian Association of Broadcasters.
[edit] Government Censorship Advocacy
The NAB came under fire in 2006 for advocating government censorship of Satellite Radio. In a letter to the FCC, NAB CEO David K. Rehr asked the FCC to consider censorship on the grounds Satellite Radio is available for free in rental cars and free internet promotions. [1]
[edit] NAB awards
The NAB presents several annual awards:
- NAB Marconi Radio Awards, to the country's top radio stations and personalities
- NAB National Radio Award, to an outstanding individual leader in the radio industry
- NAB Crystal Radio Awards, to radio stations achieving excellence in community service
