Ninian Edwards

Ninian Edwards (March 17, 1775–July 20, 1833) was a U.S. political figure. Born in 1775 in Montgomery County, Maryland, he served as the last governor of Illinois Territory between 1809 from 1818 and again as governor of Illinois (as a state) from 1826 until 1830. He served as a US Senator from Illinois from 1818 to 1824. Upon his death in 1833 in Belleville, Illinois, Edwards was interred in Oak Ridge Cemetery. [1]

- His son also named Ninian Edwards was married to a sister of Mary Todd Lincoln. Their daugther Julia Cook Edwards married Edward Lewis Baker editor of the "Illinois State Journal" and son of Congressman David Jewett Baker.
