Novosibirsk Oblast (Russian: Новосиби́рская о́бласть) is a federal subject of Russia (an oblast). Its administrative center is the city of Novosibirsk.
Novosibirsk Oblast (area 178,200 km²; pop. 2,692,251 as of 2002 All-Russian Population Census) is located in the southeastern Western Siberian plain, at the foothills of low Salair ridge, between Ob and Irtysh rivers. At west the Novosibirsk Oblast borders to the Omsk Oblast, at north to the Tomsk Oblast and at east to the Kemerovo Oblast. The southern and the southwestern borders of the Novosibirsk oblast are the Altai Krai and the state of Kazakhstan (Pavlodar Oblysy). The territory of the region extends for more than 600 km from west to east, and for more than 400 km from north to south. Novosibirsk region is mainly plain; at south the steppes prevail; at north enormous tracts of woodland with great number of marshes prevail. There are many lakes, the largest ones located at the south. The majority of rivers belongs the Ob basin, many of them falling in dead lakes. Largest lakes are Chani, Sartlan, Ubinskoye and some others.
As of 2002 All-Russian Population Census, Russians make the majority and number 2,504,147. Germans are the second in number - about 47,275. The area is also populated by 33,793 Ukrainians, 27,874 Tatars, 11,691 Kazakhs, 8,380 Belarusians, 7,850 Armenians, 7,366 Azerbaijanis, 4,147 Chuvash and by people of some other nationalities. There are 30 districts and 14 cities.

Unlike in its immediate neighbors, Decree Time is abolished in Novosibirsk Oblast. This means that the time shift is the same as in Omsk Oblast, which borders it on the west, even though it is technically located in a different timezone, and one hour ahead of Kemerovo Oblast despite it being in the same timezone.
Novosibirsk Oblast is located in the Novosibirsk Time Zone (NOVT/NOVST). UTC offset is +0600 (NOVT)/+0700 (NOVST).
