Ostariophysi is a superorder of fish. Members of this superorder are called ostariophysans. One of the distinguishing characteristics of this superorder is the Weberian apparatus, a series of bones that connect the swim bladder to the ear that allow the swim bladder to act as an amplifier.
The superorder includes these orders:
- Gonorynchiformes
- Cypriniformes (minnows and allies)
- Characiformes (characins and allies)
- Gymnotiformes (electric eels, knifefishes)
- Siluriformes (catfishes)
