The Ostrogothic Kingdom was the kingdom built by the Ostrogoths. With the migration of the Ostrogoths, it dominated Italian peninsula and neighboring areas during 489 to 553 after the fall of the Western Roman Empire. It reached its zenith in the Italian peninsula under the rule of Theodoric the Great. Most of the social institutions in the late Western Roman Empire survived during his rule.

Starting in 535, the Eastern Roman Empire initiated a number of attacks in order to capture Italy. The Ostrogothic ruler at that time, Witiges, could not defend against the attacks from the Eastern Roman Empire and was finally captured when the capital, Ravenna, fell. The Ostrogoths tried to fight back under the leadership of Totila but were defeated. The last king of Ostrogothic Kingdom was Teia.
