Pacific Blue is a wholly owned subsidiary of Virgin Blue airlines that operates as low-cost carrier in the South Pacific, predominantly on trans-Tasman routes. The airline began servicing travel between New Zealand and mainland Australia in 2003 in an effort by Virgin Blue to establish itself as the low-cost competitor of the region.
