Pacific Coliseum

Image:Pacificcoliseum.jpg Pacific Coliseum is an indoor arena at 100 North Renfrew Street in Vancouver, British Columbia. Completed in 1967 at the site of the Pacific National Exhibition, the arena seats 16,150 for ice hockey.

The coliseum is currently home to the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League. The Giants were chosen to host the 2007 Memorial Cup here in May of that year. It has previously been home of the Vancouver Canucks of the NHL from 1970-1995 and the Vancouver Blazers of the WHA from 1973-1975. It hosted WCW New Blood Rising in 2000. Today, the arena is the home of the Vancouver Giants of the WHL, as well as the host of a variety of events and concerts. It has been chosen as the venue for figure skating and short track speed skating in the 2010 Winter Olympics.

The two most notable sporting events to take place at the Pacific Coliseum were both hockey games. The Coliseum hosted Game 4 of the 1972 Summit Series on September 8, with the U.S.S.R. beating Canada 5-3. In a famous post-game interview, Phil Esposito gave an emotional response to the booing of the crowd that was broadcast on national television. The Pacific Colisieum also played host to team Canada during the 2005 World Junior Hockey Championship.

On June 11, 1994, the New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks met at the Coliseum in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Jeff Brown and Geoff Courtnall each scored twice as the Canucks won the game 4-1 to even the series at three games apiece. However, they lost the series to New York by a 3-2 score in Game 7.

WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) returned to the Pacific Coliseum in 2002 after WWE was banned from performing at GM Place due to several fights and incidents that occurred during a taping of WWE Raw. Because of that, WWE has not brought a televised event to the Vancouver area since 2001 and only perform house shows (non-televised) events once a year and they usually occur in May (since 2003). WWE decided to by-pass holding an event in Vancouver in 2006.

The WWE will be doing a WWE Supershow on February 10th, 2007. They will be taping the ECW show for February 13, 2007 and the SmackDown! show for February 16, 2007. <ref>WWE.com, WWE Smackdown & ECW Present Supershow at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver (Accessed on December 2, 2006)</ref>
