Palaeotherium ('old beast') is an extinct genus of mammal.

The tapir-like Palaeotherium was about 75 cm (2 ft 6 in) tall at the shoulder and lived in the tropical forests covering Europe around 35 million years ago. Palaeotherium had a short trunk which it used to pull leaves from shrubs. Palaeotherium was related to horses.
