Peter Laviolette

Peter Laviolette Jr. (born December 7, 1964 in Franklin, Massachusetts, USA) is an American former National Hockey League defenseman and current head coach. Since the 2003-04 NHL season, he has been head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes. He has also been the head coach of the New York Islanders and an assistant for the Boston Bruins. After growing up in the Boston suburb of Norwood, MA. Laviolette was let down when he did not get the Boston Bruins head coaching job and left the organization for Long Island. Laviolette, in his first year as coach, led the Islanders to the playoffs in 2002 after seven years of futility for the franchise. As a player, he played only twelve games in the NHL for the New York Rangers and spent the rest of his playing career among various minor league teams.

Laviolette coached the U.S. Olympic Men's Hockey Team at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.

He led the Hurricanes to their first Stanley Cup championship in the 2006 playoffs.
