Petrox was a detergent additive used from 1954 - 1989 by the Texas Oil Company (as of 1959 "Texaco"), in their "Sky Chief" brand gasoline. A new plant in Port Arthur, Texas was built to manufacture petrox.

Due to petrox lowering the octane of the fuel, as other similar brand attatives do, it was replaced by "System 3".
