Sordariomycetes

Pezizomycetes are a subphylum of the phylum Ascomycota within the kingdom Fungi.

They include the class Sordariomycetes, also known as Pyrenomycetes.

Pezizomycetes are perithecial fungi, meaning that their spore producing/releasing bodies (ascoma) are flask-like, cupping around the spores for protection during maturation, and to act as a "launching pad" when the time is right to release spores.
