Photosynthetic Pigments

Photosynthetic Pigments, Chloroplast pigments or Accessory pigments are pigments which are present within the cell of a Chloroplast used to harvest a greater spectrum of light.
This term refers to:
- Carotenoids - Red, orange and yellow pigments used for havesting light of these types.
- Chlorophylls - Green pigments used for harvesting red and blue light, ultimately lending to its green color.
- Phycobiliproteins - Water soluble pigments which occur in the stroma, or cytoplasm of the chloroplast. Occurs only in certains groups such as the Cyanobacteria or Rhodophyta.
