Picnic table

A picnic table (or sometimes a picnic bench) is a modified table with benches expressly for the purpose of eating a meal outdoors (picnicking). In the past, picnic tables were typically made of wood, but modern tables can be made out of anything from recycled plastic to brushed metal. Because of their inherent durability (due to being outdoors constantly), they are often used for a myriad of other purposes, such as a sawhorse.

[edit] Picnic tables in popular culture

Famously, Big Brother UK series 3 contestant Alison Hammond decided to jump on the picnic table and due to its size, she went straight through, damaging her leg. Had she have not done this, it is doubtful that she would have been as famous after exiting the house.
