Pinyin (Traditional Chinese: 拼音; pinyin: pīn yīn) can refer to several transcription systems for Chinese:
- Hanyu Pinyin (Hànyǔ Pīnyīn), what most people mean when referring to pinyin.
- Tongyong Pinyin (Tōngyòng pīnyīn), a derivative of Hanyu Pinyin created in the late 1990s in the Republic of China (Taiwan).
- Weituoma Pīnyīn (Wēituǒmǎ Pīnyīn), the Chinese name for the Wade-Giles system of Mandarin language romanization.
- Standard Cantonese Pinyin, a standard romanization of Cantonese used in Hong Kong.
