The soundtrack for the Disney movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. The score is infamous for its quick and mysterious production. After a disagreement, director Gore Verbinski fired composer Alan Silvestri, who was to score the film. Verbinski then brought in a team from Media Ventures to compose a replacement score. Klaus Badelt served as "music supervisor" and worked with seven other composers from Media Ventures (Ramin Djawadi, James Dooley, Nick Glennie-Smith, Steve Jablonsky, Blake Neely, James McKee Smith, and Geoff Zanelli) to produce the score. Hans Zimmer is also said to have played a role in the score's production, though the nature of this role is unclear. The extremely abbreviated scoring session has led some to charge that the score is plagiarized, cobbled together from other cues from other scores in the Media Ventures library, but despite the score's critical panning it remains successful among the general public. When the album was released, Klaus Badelt was listed as its sole composer. Likewise, Badelt's is the only name credited for the music in the film's end credits.

For the video game Kingdom Hearts II, which features a number of scenes based on the movie, composer Yoko Shimomura re-recorded "He's a Pirate" to serve as the musical theme for all combat in the Port Royal world.
