Platforming

Platforming is a proprietary commercial version of catalytic reforming using a platinum or rhodium catalyst on activated alumina. There are a great many other commercial versions of the process, one of which is called Uniforming.
Platforming is a chemical engineering process in which petroleum refinery naphthas are processed over a noble metal catalyst to produce a liquid reformate and by-product hydrogen, methane, ethane, propane and butanes. Reformate is a high octane, low sulfur, blending component used in the production of gasoline (petrol). Reformate has a high aromatics content and is commonly used as a feedstock to an aromatics complex producing benzene, toluene and xylene, commonly referred to as BTX.
