Pope Alexander I was Pope from about 106 to 115. The Vatican's "Annuario Pontificio" (2003) identifies him as a Roman who reigned from 108 or 109 to 116 or 119. Many have identified him as a martyr, but there appears to be no historical evidence supporting such a conclusion.

Eusebius, in Ecclesiastical History IV, IV, 1 states that Alexander died in the third year of the Roman Emperor Hadrian's reign, after holding the office of bishop of the Romans for ten years.
