Porting (engine)

In motor racing, porting is the modification of the shape and size of the engine's ports (that portion of the intake and exhaust systems which is within the engine castings) for enhanced aerodynamic flow. This allows for greater volumes of air/fuel mixture to be smoothly entered into the compression chamber.
